Boys Junior Varsity Golf, Boys Varsity Golf · Wildcats Golf at State

The 2017 5A State golf tournament at Commons Grounds brought out some great golf for the Fruita Monument golfers.  The two day event was played in tough conditions with low temperatures and high wind.  It didn’t seem to stop the Wildcats.  Blake Andersen lead the Cats on the first day with a nice round of 75.  Sean Kennedy kept his late season fine play carding a 78.  Zack Nehm shot a first day score of 90.  Day two really saw the Wildcats play well and each player improved their day one score.  Blake Andersen had a very fine and impressive round of 73 which allowed his two day total to place him 15th in the state.  By placing that high earned Blake a second team all state recognition.  Andersen completed his 3rd consecutive trip to state as a junior.  Sean Kennedy continued his fine play with a very nice round of 77.  Sean played very consistent golf in the two day event and proved his will be player to contend with next year.  Zack Nehm gets the award for the greatest improvement.  He fought off a bad first day to score a 78.  Very impressive comeback by Zack.  Only 3 teams had better second day scores that the Wildcats.  The future looks bright for the Wildcats golfers as the entire team returns for next year.

A: I would not change anything because I love my school and class.

Q: If you could have dinner with one person, living or dead, who would you choose and why?

A: I would have dinner with Adrian Peterson because we both suffered ACL injuries, and he returned healthier and stronger, and I think I could get so much inspiration from him as I am rehabbing my own knee.

Q: If you could live anywhere or do anything for one year, what would you do and why?

A: I would go live in Liverpool, England, and play soccer for the youth team because they are my favorite team.

Q: What advice would you give to yourself as a freshman?

A: I would tell myself that every person will face adversity and the person that we truly are shines through in our dullest moments.
